A squatter, more formally known as a trespasser, is someone who enters, or remains, upon land or premises, without having permission from the person who is entitled to possession. It is a problem which social landlords commonly encounter when properties are void e.g. awaiting re-development. Possession can generally be re-gained quickly, via the court and/or the police. Social landlords should seek legal advice and assistance to select and pursue the most effective route, in the circumstances, from a range of remedies.
